I have a number of apple trees in my garden, even though it isnt usually a brilliant garden for growing them.  But this year the weather has brought a bumper crop on some – but not all.  Unfortunately there are three apple trees that I cant remember what they are, so I will be taking specimens along at the weekend as its Apple time again for the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society.  We will be in  the John Hope Gateway this weekend. 1 Response to Apples…..

  1. Old Dutch says:

Interesting comments from visitors to the Caley Apple day stand yesterday, some said they had a glut of apples on their trees, others said there were none this year. Pruning techniques seemed to be a common query, some wanted details of where to buy apple presses and trees.
Observations: In my garden this year, the Geranium ‘Rozanne’ did not flower at its usual time in midsummer and is in flower now. Kirengeshoma palmata’s buds have only just opened. The Erigeron karvinskyanus ‘Profusion’ has been flowering wonderfully since June and has seeded itself in cobbles and cracks in the patio, some also still flowering in my cold, back north-facing garden – a delight to see. Viola ‘Rebecca’ from Macplants has also been flowering for weeks and is very pretty. Barley field next to garden was harvested on 10 September, also later than usual.
