The sun shone, and is still shining in St Andrews, for the Conference to celebrate horticulture in Scotland. David Knott, from Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, and Ken Cox from Glendoick gave outstanding presentations which demonstrated just how important a role Scotland has played in horticulture – and not just in Scotland. But it wasn’t all about patting ourselves on the back – the day was also important in exploring how we can grow the future of Scottish Horticulture. So it was the beginning of an opportunity to ‘have a rant’ as George Anderson put it! Horticulture is far more important to the world than many people realise. So watch this space – as we have the ‘bit’ between our teeth.
But another pleasure of the day was presenting Ken Cox with the Scottish Horticultural Medal for his outstanding contribution to horticulture in Scotland. The Scottish Horticultural Medal is very strictly limited in number. Well done Ken.
