Tulip species

T turkestanica
Some of the earlier tulips to flower are wild species  such as this group of Tulipa turkestanica. As the name suggest these are from central Asia where they grow quite high up in mountains like the the Pamirs and Tien Shan. As the climate there is so different to Scotland many  tulips  deteriorate in our damp  soil unlike daffodils most of which originate in western Europe. T turkestanica will seed around where it is happy. lt often  looks better outside  than in a pot where  stems  can  flop over. Like a number  of wild  tulips  it has several  flower on each stem.
