A plant named after a lizard

houttuynia-chameleonChameleons  are well known for being  able to change their skin colours. Houttuynia cordata grows  in the Far East but  it is this  variegated  form Chameleon that is readily  available  in garden centres.  The plant  likes   moist soil  and will happily grow in shallow water at  the edge of a pond. An even  bright cultivar Flame is now also available. As with most variegated plants some shoots will revert to plain green and these need to removed as  they are stronger and will eventually take over. This post arose  from  a query  sent  in to the Caley website. We are happy to answer identification  questions like this.
