AGMs can be dull – but not the Caley AGM. After a year of increasing activity it was a good time to stop for a moment and look back but also a time to celebrate Scotland’s horticultural expertise and gardening skills. Last night also had the added element of a the handover of the Presidency from Pam Whittle to David Knott.
But the highlight of the evening is always the presentation of awards. A few years ago David Knott received a Scottish Horticultural Medal (SHM) for his own outstanding contribution to Scottish Horticulture, a highly acclaimed award that is strictly limited.
This year he joined George Anderson, the Honorary President, to present an SHM To Peter Baxter of RBGE Benmore.
The Queen Mother’s Memorial Medal, for outstanding service by a non-professional went to Wendy and John Mattingley of Cluny House Garden near Aberfeldy.
The Dr Andrew Duncan Medal for distinguished service to horticulture by an educationalist, advisor or administrator was presented to Lady Catherine Erskine of Cambo.
Another medal, the Dr Patrick Neil Medal, awarded to a Scottish botanist or cultivator, had already been presented at the Scottish Rock Garden Club early show to Cyril Lafong on February 20th
Four well deserving medal winners.
